Henan Normal University is one of the key universities directly under the provincial government, developed from the Science College of Henan University (founded in 1923) and Pingyuan Teachers college (founded in 1951). It is situated in Xinxiang, a famous city in north Henan, which is at the junction of the Beijing- Guangzhou, Taiyuan-Heze railways, nestling near Taihang Mountain to the north and the Yellow River to the south, where the famous Muye battle once took place.

Henan Normal University highly values its talented teachers, devotes much of its focus to quality teaching, and facilitates the full engagement of the teachers¡¯ talents.

In the past 80 years after the founding, especially after the founding of New China, the university has gradually grown into a comprehensive normal university with complete subjects and courses. There are now 12 college, 6 independent departments, and 40 majors of undergraduate courses covering 9 subjects such as economics, science, engineering, agriculture, education, history and administration; 39 master's degree granting points covering 7 subjects such as science, engineering, philosophy, history,literature, economics and education. And there are 13 research institutes, 7 provincial key subject and jointly built provincial and ministerial key lab of cell differentiation regulation and control, Henan Bioengineering Research and Application Center, Henan Bioengineering Key Lab, Key Subject Open Lab of Henan Colleges and Universities' Environmental Science and Engineering, Henan Colleges and Universities' Teachers Training Center and Henan Biological Specimen Museum which is largest in scale and maximum in varieties. Covering an area of 700,000 square meters with a floor space of 400,000 square meters, it boasts a library with a collection of Chinese or foreign languages and electronic editions. There is a teaching staff of 1,700, of whom 1,375 are professional technologists including 2 academicians of CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences), 148 professors, 383 associate professors and 562 lecturers.
